Abstract

Meta-analysis is a type of systematic review that uses statistical techniques to synthesize multiple quantitative findings about the same research question. This lecture will guide the audience into the basics of a meta-analysis through a concrete meta-analytic article published in a prestigious journal. It will unfold the invisible writing considerations of this article. The lecture will cover key concepts, techniques, procedures of meta-analyses, and some possible issues in practice. It aims to prepare the audience for their first meta-analytic article.

Biography of the lecturer

 Dr. Liru Hu (https://huliru.com/) obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Hong Kong, specializing in the learning sciences. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in educational technology. Dr. Hu has published in multiple prestigious journals, including one systematic review article in Educational Research Review and one meta-analytic article in Educational Psychological Review. She is an invited lecturer for an advanced quantitative research methods course for doctoral students at the University of Hong Kong. Her current research focuses on dialogic education, collaborative problem solving, computer-supported collaborative learning, and visual learning analytics.
